The weekend kicks off with the Lyon Fry Cadden Health and Fitness Expo on Friday, June 1 from 4 p.m. Crabs and Shrimps will compete in the shorter course consisting of a 75-yard swim, 1-mile bike and 0.75 mile run. Mullets and Flounders will compete in a longer course consisting of a 200-yard swim, 3-mile bike, and 1.75 mile run. Participants will be divided into four different waves according to their respective age: Mullets (Ages 13-15), Flounders (Ages 11-12), Crabs (Ages 9-10), and Shrimps (Ages 7-8). “We really want to encourage parents to race in the Grandman on Saturday and then cheer on their children at the kid’s race on Sunday.”Ĭhildren ages 7-15 are eligible to enter the Jubilee Kid’s Tri. “Fairhope is the perfect race destination for the whole family,” said Callaway. Callaway thinks combining the two races under the same umbrella is a great selling point for families looking to spend a weekend together in Fairhope. This year marks the second year that Mobile Baykeeper will be co-hosting the Jubilee Kids Triathlon. ![]() The race to the finish line consists of a 3.1 mile run through the streets of Fairhope and concludes along Mobile Bay at Fairhope Park. Following the swim, racers will bike 18 miles, beginning up a steep hill before riding through downtown Fairhope and miles of rolling countryside. Racers begin this sprint triathlon by jumping off Fairhope Pier into Mobile Bay and swimming 1/3-mile to the shore. “We host the race on Mobile Bay to connect more citizens to our natural resources and raise awareness of our work for clean water, clean air, and healthy communities.” ![]() “The Grandman is a sprint triathlon – which makes it a perfect race for every type of triathlete out there,” said Casi (kc) Callaway, race director and executive director of Mobile Baykeeper. In its fourteenth year, the Grandman has become one of Fairhope’s premier annual events, attracting up to 800 racers of all ages and skill levels from the Southeast and beyond. ![]() Following the Grandman, Mobile Baykeeper will partner with volunteers from Altaworx and Eastern Shore Triathlon Club to co-host the Publix Jubilee Kids Triathlon on Sunday, June 3 at 7:30 a.m., which also takes place at the Fairhope Pier. – Mobile Baykeeper is celebrating the 14th Annual Publix Grandman Triathlon on Saturday, June 2 at 7 a.m.
